Stop and Steep

Unlock the divine whispers that guide your soul and discover the intimate conversation awaiting you within the sacred pages of Scripture.

Our faith quenches a spiritual thirst through the Holy Spirit and intimate connection with God. Many struggle to understand this, but it begins with reading my Word. Not just reading, but highlighting your favorite verses, and not just highlighting, but soaking them in.

As you delve into your Bible, listen closely to my gentle voice speaking directly to your heart. Each verse becomes a conduit for my wisdom and love, drawing you into a deeper relationship and a greater experience of my character.

As soon as you come to a verse that captures your heart, don’t try to keep reading. Stop right there and jump into the verse like a tea bag into water. Steep by reading the verse slowly, just one word at a time or a few words at a time. Focus and listen, for God surely has something personal to say to you through his Word.

As you focus in this way, my Holy Spirit will inhabit the words and bring them to life. As you jump into Scripture like a bag into steaming water, you will realize your thirst for me. Scripture isn't like reading a book; my words are alive and get inside you, changing the essence of Who you are.

This method of reading my Word will satisfy that thirst and imprint Scripture within you for life.

Now, you’re not just reading your Bible; you are conversing personally with me.

"Let's practice the art of Bible meditation. ... Let us open our Bibles, spread them out on a chair and meditate on the Word of God. It will open itself to us, and the Spirit of God will come and brood over it. ... Put away the questions and answers and the filling in of blank lines ... and in faith say, "Father, here I am. Begin to touch me!" ~A.W. Tozer

Quashing the voices of disapproval

My child, So many of you carry the ache of others’ disapproval. You feel the sting of human judgment and wonder if it reflects the truth. But listen to the Scripture: “Who will accuse those whom God has chosen? God has approved of them. Who will condemn them?” (Romans 8:33-34 GWT).

Repeat those words any time you feel disapproval, and the Word of God will set you free. Let them echo through your soul. I am the One who holds the gavel—and I have declared you innocent. Washed in My blood, you are accepted, covered, and cherished. The opinions of others—even your own harsh inner voice—hold no power beside My verdict.

When their words unsettle you … when your thoughts accuse… return to Me. Whisper it aloud if you must: “God approves of me, who will condemn? God approves of me, who will condemn?”

Of course, the answer to that is no one. No one, not the most spiteful person, has the right to contradict what I say is true.

I do not condemn you. I intercede for you. I plead your cause continually, not out of obligation but out of boundless love. My death and resurrection secured your freedom, and nothing—nothing—can separate you from My love.

So rest, beloved. Trust My approval above every voice. It is enough. With love that cannot be undone, – Jesus

With love beyond measure,

Your Secret Identity is the Cure for Guilt

Newborn foal snuggling her mother with text overlay: Now you are ‘born again,’ fresh as a newborn colt and as innocent as a babe adored by its mother (John 3:3)

Many of My children say they are just sinners saved by grace. Untrue. You were a sinner; you are now saved by grace. And because of that, you are quintessentially good.

Are you overwhelmed with guilt? My apostle, Paul, agonized over his own sin. In Romans 7:24, he cries out: "Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?"

But the identity of sin in Romans 7 is no longer yours. The moment you received Me, everything changed—you now live in My victory and freedom.

In fact, Paul goes even further: He says that when he sins, it is no longer him! "So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it." (Romans 7:17) "But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it." (Romans 7:20)

How can this be? It means being a sinner is no longer Paul’s identity (or your own identity) at his core. His true self—and your true self—has been recreated to be the righteousness of God in Me (2 Corinthians 5:21 GNT). There is now no condemnation for those who are in Me.

Approach Me without fear—freedom from guilt is My gift to you, and like any gift, the giver desires that you delight in it.

Though at times you sin, goodness is now your true identity—the core of who you are. Your feelings about yourself, may waver, but truth does not change. Now you are ‘born again,’ fresh as a newborn colt and as innocent as a babe adored by its mother (John 3:3).

The struggle with sin in Romans 7 is over—now you live in the victory and freedom of Romans 8. Rejoice and abide in Me, for you are safe and fully acceptable.

Do you believe that I have fully freed you from guilt? What holds you back from embracing your true identity in Me?

With love beyond measure,

Will I See My Pet in Heaven?

A boy with his arm around his dog, leaning together in the late afternoon sun, sitting on a dock, looking out onto the water

My dear child,

You have lost your beloved pet and your heart is aching. Your grief is real, and I do not take it lightly. Others have told you there is no biblical proof that animals have souls which makes your pain even worse. Your heart tells you there must be more but you don’t know what to think. Be encouraged; there is evidence in the Bible that you will see your pet in heaven.

Before the world was fractured by sin, animals lived in peace. They were not food and they were not hunted or feared. Animals did not even eat each other. Only the evil of humans brought an end to the Garden of Eden and death into the world. In the Garden of Eden, animals existed alongside mankind in harmony Could it be that this was a glimpse of eternity?

My servant Paul wrote, “Not all flesh is the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another, and fish another. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. … If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body” (‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭39‬-‭44‬ ‭BSB). This seems to say, fairly plainly, that animals have physical bodies, and that anything with a physical body also has a spiritual body which will be raised.

Consider Balaam’s donkey who saw the angel (Numbers 22:21-39). She carried not just a prophet upon her back, but spiritual understanding beyond Balaam’s. She spoke, revealing wisdom beyond her human companion. By her own will, she turned aside from destruction. By her own words, she confronted blindness. I did not speak through her—I merely opened her mouth, and she cried out her own emotions, her own discernment. Her voice spoke out what he could not see, and through her obedience, My purpose was fulfilled. Does this not show sentience? A soul?

A Feast for the Soul (and Spaghetti for the Dog)

Psalm 145:15-16: "The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing."

If a parrot can joyfully feed a dog spaghetti, imagine how much joy I find in nourishing your soul. But are you truly full, or is something still missing?

Just as this parrot takes such delight in feeding “his” dog spaghetti, I love nourishing you—both spiritually and physically. Have you ever felt that unshakable hunger, like something crucial is missing from your life? That’s spiritual hunger, a longing only I can satisfy.

How to hear from my Word

Jesus might say:

Many read the Bible at face value, as if they were reading a normal book and feel they have gained understanding and know how to apply it. Egregious things have been done in my name because these readers have a flat, human understanding of the Bible. My Word will be misinterpreted unless I, myself, am revealed in it by my Holy Spirit. That’s because my Word is living and active (Hebrews 4:12): If you allow it, the words of the Bible actively get inside your heart and change you from the inside out.

My Word is me talking to you, and you cannot hear me properly unless that Word is illuminated and infused by my Holy Spirit. Whenever you open the Bible, say a prayer that my Holy Spirit will show you what I'm saying through it, and help you to apply it and hear me speaking directly to you.

Love,

Jesus
