I don’t want a religious checklist from you — I want a love relationship. I want you to walk with Me through your day, to turn toward Me in the ordinary moments. Your love is like a drink of cold water to Me and gives me deep joy. Take joy also in Me.
My presence is meant to be a deep relief to you, a joy that steadies and satisfies. I genuinely like you as a friend. I give you my deepest affection. And you can love Me back because I first loved you (1 John 4:19).
This love relationship is what I desire from you. Because you love Me, you often serve Me, but service is not what I want from you. Praying or serving others is not more holy than brushing your teeth, changing a diaper, or giving a presentation at work. My blood has already made your whole life holy. So don’t strive to impress Me or feel guilty when you’re not doing something “spiritual.”
Rejoice in the abundant life I’ve given you. Delight in Me, your Hero.
Drink deeply of the pleasures of this God.
Experience for yourself the joyous mercies
he gives to all who turn to hide themselves in him.
