It may take years of sincere effort — years of trying to be good, trying to be consistent, trying to “get it right” — before you finally discover the truth: the Christian life is impossible.
But this discovery is not a doorway into despair. It is the doorway into joy. Only when you reach the end of your own strength can you begin the journey of rest. Only when you release your grip on striving can you finally experience what life in the Spirit was meant to be. “After starting your new life in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?" (from Galatians 3:3).
When you let go, I become free to express Myself through you. I live within your heart, joined to your spirit, like a hand filling a glove — animating, guiding, empowering. You are not left to imitate Me; you are invited to participate in Me. My life becomes your life. My strength becomes your strength. My compassion becomes the movement of your own heart.
This is why “trying harder” never works.
It keeps you turned inward, measuring yourself, judging yourself, exhausting yourself. But when you surrender that burden, when you stop striving to manufacture goodness, the impossible becomes reality. Not because you finally succeeded — but because I am living through you.Rest is not passivity; it is union. It is the quiet confidence that you are not alone in your efforts, not abandoned to your weaknesses, not responsible for producing what only the Spirit can create.
Let go of the impossible and receive the Life that makes it possible.
Jesus
